Arkansas Basketball, 1960s

By the late 1960s, Arkansas basketball was on the brink of collapse. Fan interest was nonexistent and turnout to games was abysmal. Football overshadowed everything, and it didn’t help that Barnhill Fieldhouse was more barn than fieldhouse. The building’s primary use seemed to be for the football team, which often stirred up dust when players worked out, leaving behind a residue on the hardwood. Basketball coaches and players routinely had to sweep the court to use it. Meanwhile, a section of fieldhouse bleachers were removed annually to add seating in Razorback Stadium. Once football season was over, the bleachers were returned.
